Cold spots can be a real problem. Even if you have the heating on nice and warm you might still get a draught or a cold spot. If you do, it might be time to replace your windows.
Any draughts caused by old and ill-fitting windows make the whole room feel colder. Cold air draws heat out of you, even if the room is warm. So even when the thermostat is set higher, or even switch the fire on to compensate we feel cold.
Fitting new windows will eliminate draughts and cold spots and turning a thermostat down by just one degree can save you up to £75 a year according to the Energy Savings Trust.
Changing windows sooner means you’ll save money from day one. And you’ll feel warmer even with the thermostat turned down.
You can check for cold spots yourself. Autumn is a great time to do this. Go round the house and hold your hand about 30 centimetres, or a foot in old money, away from the frame and you’ll be able to feel if there are any changes in temperature.
Crystal Living’s window frames are much more energy efficient and prevent these cold spots happening in the first place. And the technology used in glass can even add warmth to your home.
