Bespoke Extension Case Study | Crystal Living

Balcombe, Bespoke Extension

Inside of extension

The Brief  – Mrs Balcombe is an interior designer and had an idea of the style of extension they wanted to add, they required additional living space, to create a larger open plan living area off the dining room, also the idea was to make better use of the garden which is south facing.

We needed to create big enough space to house the existing L-shape sofa and a large TV on the wall, due to facing directly south, they really did not want to have a glazed roof so the final design was to create a flat roof extension but internally create a recess in the roof to house secret lighting to give the feeling of height.

The elevations were mainly walls but with the addition of large aluminium patio sliders and the idea of a glazed corner to enhance the view of the garden, designing the steel frame to support the walls and roof was a challenge as we needed to keep the corner section as streamline as possible so not to obstruct the views.

The long term plan for the house is to change the style of the windows and possibly add a modern render which will then be in keeping with the new extension.
